Chapter 2 Setup

How to set up a project in CoDesigner

Upload dxf

CoDesigner can interpret a given CAD floor plan, when loaded as DXF line drawing. Therefore, elements such as windows, walls, columns and doors must be defined as exact layers.

Corporate data

Includes all over and sub departments, as well as teams within the sub department. Each team has its own headcount and number of workstations, specific office data can be implemented here. Application profile, layout style and pattern style can be preselected, colours and parameters can be edited here. There is also an option to prepare the information in a template to import as an Excel spreadsheet.

Clearances

Main settings and rules for the spacing are set, current standards are pre-set. Increasing those numbers will have direct effects in the floorplan.

Application profile

An Excel spreadsheet with the same wording is required to upload it to CoDesigner. This way new profiles with application types can be created. Dependencies define exact parameters for planning. New application profiles can be edited afterwards or completely replaced by a new import. To save changed information, it can be exported as an Excel file.

Layout styles and pattern styles

Layout styles and pattern styles allow adjustments to the layout and pattern styles in the floor plan based on individual preferences in the settings. Size parameters can be changed, corridors and separators can be added, and varieties of working styles selected.

Applications

The user can create individual applications, or modify existing ones, which are stored in a library. These can be additionally divided into categories with “tags”. The flyout of the floor plan shows the list of applications that appear in a sub department.

Space types and axes

Several buildings with their own floors can be uploaded. CoDesigner analyses the floorplan and gives suggestions for four different room categories. Zone is for the parts with workplaces and applications. Closed rooms that are part of the working environment are categorized as rooms.

The category infrastructure connects two parts of the building, bathroom and stairs are service. The red axis symbolizes the corridor and can be moved and extended. The sub-pattern shows the direction of the workstations.

Chapter 3 Planning

How to plan a building or a floor plan with CoDesigner

Stacking

Sub departments can be moved to different floors by drag & drop. Overfilled floors are recognized by transparent sub departments. The Optimize button in the sidebar makes changes and new sub departments visible on the floor plan.

Dashboard

The dashboard shows if given parameters are fulfilled by different departments, such as current and required number of workstations and results in the alignment of overall quality. The Heat-Map generates different display options of the floor plan.

Floorplan optimization

With the Optimize button CoDesigner calculates the floorplan. The departments can be individually optimized, locked or deleted. By modifying Data of Workplaces and Space in the fly-out, the size of the respective department changes. Zooming in or out allows to move around applications or to transfer entire subdivisions.

Zone marker and adjacencies

Zone markings describe a type such as stairs, toilet, entrance, cafeteria or custom. By defining neighbourhoods, markings and sub departments are placed close to each other. Exclamation marks express the priority and importance of the connection.

Lens tool

Lens Tool implementation allows to smartly change set of continuously variable parameters which affect target figures and layout styles. The Culture LENS diagram ranks preferred work culture of the application profiles. Office LENS varies space needs for rooms and has a direct effect on the application profiles of entire departments. Workstyle LENS places needs for different types of work and effects pattern team wise.

Use employee calculation

Calculates m² per employee instead of m² per workplace. Which is especially an interesting information for desk sharing ratios, which means several employees share the same workplace.

Chapter 4 Output

How to continue working with CoD files

Export functions

The Export of Current Layout for pCon Planner Pro creates the correctly positioned 3D furniture. COP files should be downloaded for continue working with CoDesigner, DXF for working with CAD tools. Download of PDF Data gives structured information divided into sub departments and achieved requirements. The function use pricing additionally displays individual costs of the furniture used. PDF Floorplan gives an overview about all floors. Furniture and departments can be downloaded as excel furniture also.
